A TREK TO REMEMBER (Long over due post about our Pinatubo day trek)
I am back to being the busiest slacker. Hahaha. Now I can finally write about the trek I had ---- Mt. Pinatubo!!! The posse and I went to Pinatubo last February (I forgot the exact date, all I remember is that it was on a Saturday). Every month, we actually have this outdoor activity and it's fast becoming a hobby!! Last January, our destination was Anawangin Zambales. And the month after that, it was Pinatubo in Tarlac and for the month of March-- it was Mt. Daguldol in Batangas!!! Whew!!! Boy, I am tired already. Hehehe..But seriously, no complaints naman because I got to be with cool people . I've enjoyed every single trek we've had so far.
We were there!!!
Going back to Pinatubo… Our day started as early as 4 am since we wanted to arrive just in time at Capas to start our day trek. I woke up a little late so I decided to just board a taxi even though I didn't have any money. Hahaha. I only got 20 bucks in my wallet. I didn't worry at all because I knew that yaba was there to save the day.. hahaha. I arrived at our meeting place in Ortigas. Almost everyone was already inside the van. We were around 18 people and we had to wait for others like Tita Gov & company but after a few minutes we're up and running!!! We reached Capas at past 6 am.
There are two kinds of Pinatubo trek you could choose from-- the first one is via old road (which is a 2+ hr trek) the second one is the shortened version via skyway (for 30 minutes only). Being the adventurous people that we are, we chose the road less traveled --the old road. The guides kept on discouraging us from taking the old route, ayaw din siguro nila mapagod kasi namn 2+ hours din yun eh. But hey we were determined and we did not come all the way from Manila just to f***ing walk for measly 30 minutes. I needed to lose a lot of pounds and walking for 30 mintues just wouldn't do any difference to my weight. Duh!!! :) Yabang!!!
So old route it was…We were taken by three 4x4 jeep to the 'jump off point' where we could start our 2 hour long walk. Yoohooo!!!
Riding a 4x4 in a bumpy, rugged and lahar stricken road proved to be a challenge for some of us. It seemed endless at first but it was just a prelude to our 2+ hour trek. More punishing physical activity was to be expected. Hahahaha.
Rough Road or better yet, alikabok road!!!
Kahit ilang ilog ay aming tatawirin.
Help! Na flat ata manong, bigat mo kasi eh!
It couldn't get any rougher than this!
So, the 'walking' begins!!!
It was fun. We were exhausted but the trek was definitely worth it. I was thankful that we chose the old route because we were able to enjoy the journey better. I imagined how boring everything would have been if we chose the easy skyway route. We saw lots of beautiful scenery and we had more time to bond. Not everyone would have had that chance. It was hardcore walking baby!!!
It took us more than 2 hours to reach the crater-- the crater was a sight to behold. Although I wrote in my facebook that there was nothing spectacular about it, that wasn't entirely true. I was just being a mean critic. Hehehe. It was beautiful naman. I didn't swim in the crater though. Ang hirap mag bihis eh. Hehehe. But overall, enjoy naman. The trek was long but it wasn't steep, it was manageable. Just about anyone who is healthy can conquer Pinatubo... Just bring your brave heart!!! :)
All the 'walking' paid off!!! (Ganda ng kuha ko noh!?!)
This is heaven on earth!!!
The crater!!!
After the trek, my body and legs did hurt but only for a day. I just rested and was still able to come to the office the following day.
